Alt Appreciation – Rogue Week!

Here we are again!

Class WeekRogues, the loveable creatures with a hint of mystery.

I have a rogue. Here she is:

I love her name, I wish I’d named my Monk that.

This rogue originally started off as a project with Mr B and 2 other friends, where we were levelling together. I created her months ago, but only started playing her when we were levelling as a group. However, after a few days (around level 60), I was having some real issues understanding the class. Why did I spend half my time standing waiting for my energy to regenerate? Which damn opener do I use from stealth? At this point, I wasn’t much of an asset to the team, spending most of my time trying to get behind the stupid mob to get out of stealth.

Let’s put it this way – I wasn’t a natural.

Half the problem, I think, was that we were levelling so quickly that I wasn’t really having time to learn the class (who said levelling served no purpose?!) and I was getting frustrated. So, I swapped to my Warlock which worked much better.

Anyway, back to the Rogue. I eventually had a think about what I wanted to do with her. In the end, I decided I really wanted to try twinking, so this is what she has become. I levelled her up the last few levels at a slower pace and I’ve started to enjoy playing her more. She’s currently a level 70 twink, outfitted in Sunwell PvE gear and she kicks ass in dungeons 😉

I’m not completely finished, but she has a lot of BiS gear now and I’m pretty pleased with it. Eventually I’d kind of like to try some PvP gear, but you all know how scared I am of those BG’s!

I’ve been playing rogue in every expansion since vanilla. I have one alliance at max level which is one of my mains, and a horde at level 85.

This rogue was my very first serious character back when I was a little newbie in 2005. It’s currently level 85 and very unloved with me not touching it since i dinged 85 back in Cata. I raided throughout vanilla on this but didn’t get that far into BWL. I had lots of fun PvPing and being part of an Assasin squad 😀 video below.

This is rogue you know as my alter ego Mr WoW. I leveled it during Cata using the Scroll of Resurrection to level it to 80 when I returned after a break. I dabble in playing it once or twice a week doing some dungeons or the dreaded LFR to try and keep up with his gear.

I love being able to stealth and pop out the shadows to strike down my foe. My favourite spec is combat just because i like swinging my swords around, but I am thinking of trying to learn assassination if i get some daggers drop.

My biggest grievance is that in nearly 9 years the class plays nearly the same as it did when we started. It would be nice to see some more differences between the specs and maybe a return of the old evasion tanking fun.

That’s our Rogue alts done! See you next week.

Mr B Rogue-ing Around

So I kinda have an addiction to Rogues. Back in Vanilla, my first 60 was my undead rogue (still have this character actually).

WoWScrnShot_040213_140941

At the start of each expansion since, I have tried to level another character and have always gone back to my rogue by the end of the expansion. In BC, I leveled a paladin at the start, then a mage and finished with my rogue. In WOTLK, I started with a warrior, then druid and ended with my rogue. In Cata, I started with my mage, then a dk and ended with my rogue. So far in MoP, I have played my death knight, warlock, monk, priest and now my rogue as well as lots of different alts.

Anyway this post is really about my first week at 90 on my rogue. I have gone from a lowly 335 ilvl when i dinged 90, to 479 ilvl in 5 days, mainly thanks to the wonderful troves of the Thunder King solo scenario. I got lucky on the way to 90 too: I got a Sha of Anger kill at 88 ish and got a Claw of Anger and the 496 tier trousers. Add to that, I already had the 476 Engineering goggles and I had pickpocketed around 20 junkboxes from which I managed to get a Krol Scimatar – the 476 agi sword. So… after I had bought the 450 rings and neck and the 458 PvP set, I was above 460 and ready to set foot into LFR.

My first trip in to the LFR was excellent, I got 7 pieces of loot from the 6 bosses. I then used the rest of my bonus rolls running the first part of the LFR another 3 times, managing to get to 470 with enough time to run the first part of HoF before reset. I don’t know about you, but I don’t know many people who manage to get such a good run of luck in LFR.

Since the reset, I have ran all the LFR’s but with no luck… only getting 1 piece of loot even with my12 bonus rolls I used. But, with that one piece and having enough valor to get the 522 next from Shado-Pan assault,  I have got up to 479: 1 short of being able to access the new Throne of Thunder raid!!

This coming week hopefully I will get the last 3 upgrades I need to replace the last of my blues. I will then be attempting the Brawlers Guild and recording and blogging about my attempts.

Not a bad week, eh? We’d love to hear your tips about the Brawlers Guild in time for my adventures.

Quick edit just as I was posting this I got a drop from a heroic taking me up to 480 in a week 😀

20 Days of WoW – Day 5

Day 05 – Favourite item(s) in game

This is a tricky one as there’s so many things I love. It’s not very specific so I’ll do 3.

1. My wand. No, my wholewitchy transmog. I’ve finally finished it and I love it – I’ll do a more detailed post another time. I think it’s brilliant that you can turn awesome looking pieces of gear so yours look like it.

2. Mounts. This warrents a whole other post too, as I have lots of favourites – they’re like animals, I just couldn’t choose a favourite without feeling guilty!

3. The novelty archaeology items, like the war drums. Not worth anything but putting a touch of humour into the profession. Love it!

For me? Tier two Bloodfang set for rogues is g.o.r.g.e.o.u.s.

I’m going to get the recolour for my Monk – drops from Heroic BC dungeons.

Nom.

Mr and Mrs WoW Re-roll Day #3

Quick Stats

  • Day: 3
  • Level: 13
  • Cash: 1g 45s 6c
  • Mrs B deaths: 1 (doing well!)

Mr B was slacking a bit today – he’s levelling a monk as well at the moment so we haven’t done much on the alts. I am really enjoying the rogue though – I got stun today so I have been annoying Mr B by stunning all my targets then sitting admiring them…

I tamed a snow leopard on the Hunter, but decided the bear looked more fierce so a bit gutted. I’m still enjoying jumping around with steady shot but I don’t really want to play this as I’m enjoying the monk so much.

I took this screenshot as I’ve never flown in a helicopter (IRL or on WoW) and really enjoyed it! I can’t remember which quest it was (sorry!) but it was enjoyable none-the-less.

I’M THE KING OF THE CASTLE AND YOU’RE A…. DWARF-Y RASCAL!          *sigh*

Mr and Mrs WoW Re-roll Day #2

Quick Stats

  • Day: 2
  • Level: 10
  • Cash: 58s 8c
  • Zone: Dun Morogh
  • Number of Mrs B’s deaths: 1

Today we spent running around killing Wendigos (or whatever they’re called – the yeti things). I quite enjoyed pretending to be a ninja. I think Mr B got a bit fed up of me yelling “STEALTH STEALTH STEALTH” whenever I snuck up on a mob. He did let me die though – even though he has a handy little pet for grabbing the aggro. I’m not ashamed of my noobish dying – I’ll keep a tally so you can all see!

Oh, I took Combat (because I’m a ninja – obvs.) and apparently I wear leather. Mr B told me I needed Agility but I’m not being given that, so going for Stamina instead. Gear is guesswork at the moment. *Note to self – read icyveins*

Spent some hours trying to stop her killing herself by ninja pulling half of a cave of Wendigos. Took Beast Mastery and enjoyed jumping and shooting things. Dunegons soon!

All-time favourite instance?

Mr B: Hands down, Blackrock Depths.

Here’s why:

  • Epic underground sprawling city – I mean, look at it!!
  • Rescuing dwarf princesses only for her to not want to go, what a tease!
  • Remember it in Vanilla? It takes ages to complete even now. You have to immerse yourself in it completely.
  • Starting a bar fight, it appeals to my manly side *flexes muscles*
  • Remember the ‘Barman Shanker’? Best dagger. Ever.

I loved it so much, I recorded myself and two other rogues running it. Have a watch:

Which is your favourite instance? We’d like to know!
