Lil’ Oony

Lil’ Oondasta, the pet of choice of Tommy Newcomer… a rather sweet faced boy located on the Timeless Isle.

Little Oony is a massive pain in the bum… very similar to his grown up counter part. He looks bloomin’ amazing though, I so want one! However, the lure of 500 coins a day towards the 100k for the mount was hard to resist.

Anyway, FULL CREDIT for the strategy to beat this guy goes to @WoWRounded – link to the article here.

The technique has worked every time I have used it without fail, and only requires two pets to execute. Before I found this strategy, I was hopelessly killing pet after pet trying to figure out how to stop Oony’s Frill Blast from eating my mechanicals.

So, which pets to use?

My trusty Clockwork Gnome with Build Turret, and the Zandalari Kneebiter with Black Claw and Hunting Party. The third pet doesn’t matter as long as its health is lower than the Kneebiter. I use whichever low level pet I have to hand.

As I said, @WoWRounded’s is flawless. The article (which you should read!) explains is great detail, but condensed down is basically:

1. Start with the Gnome and Build Turret

2. Oony will swap out the Gnome for the Kneebiter, so use Black Claw then Hunting Party. This should take him down to about 20% health. If you’re lucky, Oony will miss and you’ll get another in, which will finish him off.

3. If the previous step doesn’t kill him, swap the Gnome back in and finish him off with a bash to the head.

I know this requires these two particular pets, but I use the Gnome in most fights at the moment, and the Kneebiter is really easy to get – and cheapish on the AH too.

Thank you @WoWRounded for helping me finally beat this beast!

A Timeless Champion.

Out of sheer boredom, I starting camping Golganarr, the last elusive rare that never seemed to be up on Doomhammer. He was pretty massive actually, I felt quite tiny.

A couple of weeks ago at some obscure time of day, he spawned and I finally got my achievement:

Aviary Photo_130412626587843612So anyway, go me. I did think that all that trouble was kinda not worth the 10 achievement points. It would have been nice to have a little title or something…

As you can tell, we’re both a bit bored at the moment. Hopefully something exciting will happen this week for me to post about!

Monday Moan #30

Yay, it’s that time of the week again!

Someone… please, for the love of all that is Warcraft, explain why the flight point to the Timeless Isle is so ridiculously far from the main cities in Pandaria? Knowing how many people would be going there, tell me why on earth it doesn’t have a direct flight point – or even one that passes via a useful town like Halfhill – but instead bypasses Pang’s Stead and Dawn’s Blossom. WHERE IS THE LOGIC????

Disclaimer: this is a rhetorical statement, I know there are trinkets that portal you there etc available for rep… I JUST THINK IT’S STUPID!

Post Patch-Day Post

So, here we are 3 days after the introduction of 5.4 and the Timeless Isle and I’ve been trying to write this post since Wednesday. I wasn’t excited at all about it (I was!) but actually, we’ve really been enjoying it so far.

Here’s our impressions so far:

Timeless Isle Pros

  • Cool concept with a nice story. I don’t think the lore sits with the rest of the patch particularly, but as neither of us have huge lore knowledge, we’re not really good people to comment.
  • Good layout and design (although I expected it to be bigger) and I like the Jade Forest feel

  • Gear and coins seem to drop in enough abundance that you’re not annoyed, but not enough so that you’re always kept wanting more to work towards that elusive mount/piece of gear/vanity item
  • The little challenges and achievements, like finding the chests are really fun!

  • The gambler, Kukuru, who owns the chests. I think it’s a great idea to get people to spend the coins and, secretly, we like a bit of a flutter!

  • Rares seem to spawn frequently and the world bosses have a lovely model

WoWScrnShot_091413_170958 This dude dropped some awesome 553 gloves for my Monk!

  • I like that there’s a small bit you can’t access unless you have the cloak – an element of mystery. I HATE THIS!
  • Awesome vanity items! This one is “Rime of the Time-Lost Mariner”, a drop from a rare. Pretty groovy, huh?

  • Exploring the island is very fun… finding the chests hidden away and the quirks, like the clickable buffs
  • Being able to gear up your alts so easily is proving to be excellent. My warlock is now 485!
  • The sheer amount of stuff to do is pretty amazing. We’ve both wiled away a few hours without realising it.

Timeless Isle Cons

  • The flight point layout to get there is ridiculous
  • Lots of people means lots of issues – lag, killing rares before you can get there, idiots blocking the quest givers, competition for chests/spawns, not enough mobs to go around etc etc

  • The Yaungol rep grind (at the moment) seems extremely long. 22 rep per mob (which there aren’t enough of unless it’s the middle of the night) is a looooong grind.
  • That damn bridge. I think it’s stupid that not everyone can access content unless you have spent weeks grinding the legendary. Seems a bit exclusive, which rightly or wrongly, I don’t like.

So, what do you think so far? We love to hear your views!
